Political leaders and CEOs discussed how to build clean, electrified economies and advance the global transition away from fossil fuels at the first Global Energy Transition and Electrification Summit.

Against a backdrop of geopolitical instability and energy price volatility, the Summit provided an opportunity to discuss the outcomes of the Santa Marta Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels and take stock of progress on the COP30 Presidency roadmap. As the COP31 Presidency put electrification front and centre, the Summit brought together governments and business to accelerate the policies, investments and international support needed to electrify economies, strengthen energy security, and deliver an equitable energy transition.

THE BUSINESS CASE FOR AN ELECTRIFIED ECONOMY

We Mean Business Coalition’s white paper highlights how electrification is the fastest, most scalable way to both modernize and decarbonize the economy. It outlines how electrification delivers a blueprint for affordable, secure and competitive growth, creating prosperity for all.

The paper also introduces We Mean Business Coalition’s four-year Electric Advantage program as a platform for collective business leadership to modernize policy, unlock investment and accelerate deployment of clean electrification at scale.

The electrification staircase

The Electrification Staircase is a practical framework that shows where electrification can deliver the greatest impact today, and how to prioritise solutions across sectors. By setting out a clear sequence for action, it helps policymakers and industry focus on the most efficient pathways to accelerate electrification, strengthen energy security, and advance the clean energy transition in Europe.

5 point Action plan

Attacks on critical infrastructure and disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have triggered the most severe oil and gas market volatility since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. In response to the crisis, the Global Renewables Alliance and our six global member associations have launched a 5-point action plan to break the cycle of energy crises.

Renewables Action Plan

The Global Renewables Alliance (GRA) has issued a statement launching a five-point Renewables Action Plan, calling on governments to urgently accelerate renewable energy deployment in response to renewed global energy price shocks.
