The pledge made by 200 countries at COP28 to triple the installed capacity of renewables by 2030 involves a significant ramp up in deployment globally, much of which will occur in regional communities.
While this represents significant socio-economic opportunities in the form of jobs and economic growth in many host communities, it will also bring with it social and environmental change within a relatively compressed timeframe, which can be challenging and disruptive for host communities.
This session will discuss the ways that different regions have experienced and responded to social licence challenges and are working to foster community acceptance within host communities, including effective strategies for community engagement and benefit sharing.
