The renewables and mining industries are both essential for meeting the 1.5 degree target and addressing the challenges of the energy transition. There is a need to create secure, sustainable and resilient supply chains that will allow for the growth of renewables to be deployed globally, however we have a duty to do this responsibly whilst putting people and the workforce at the center of this. Following the conclusion of the UN Secretary-General’s Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals in September 2024, and with the commitment to tripling renewables by 2030 made at COP28, ensuring delivery of responsibly mined minerals and metals for the renewables sector is imperative. This session will explore and set the parameters for discussion for how these two sectors can collaborate to contribute towards delivery and just and equitable energy transition at the scale and pace required whilst also doing so responsibly.
