Long duration energy storage (LDES) is increasingly recognised as an essential component of global decarbonisation, and enables storage of clean renewable energy for use over days, weeks and even inter-seasonally. By 2040 8 TW of LDES could save the global economy over USD 500 billion annually, with multiple gigatonnes of avoided carbon emissions. This session will showcase why now is the time to deploy LDES at scale, and bring together technology providers and users to set out how LDES contributes to decarbonisation and the key enabling actions that are needed to advance LDES.
